The IRC signals project is a long running multifaceted effort, to secure and maintain the use of IRC as a first base for extraterrestrial contact. The reasoning behind our stated goal is simple, by immediately exposing foreign life forms to the common intellect of mankind, offered only by Internet Relay Chat, we offset any eventual disappointment and streamline the development of relations. As IRC is a strictly text-based standard of communication, there is no risk of strong southern accents interfering with communications during and after first contact.

Through extensive funding, the project is already in possession of an undisclosed number of high frequency radio wave telescope, positioned in bases across New Mexico and Svalbard. Each base is responsible for distributing IRC messages through binary, in the form of radio waves, as well as listening for received responses.
